Nursing homes often face challenges with residents who unintentionally wander outside designated areas, creating safety risks and increasing the workload for care staff. To address this, a German nursing home partnered with Daza and Cisper to implement a patient monitoring solution based on Intellifi RFID technology. Using RFID tags integrated into clothing and Intellifi Smartspots, the system enables reliable identification and localization of residents while integrating with existing nurse call systems. The solution provides automated alerts, improves patient safety and reduces stress for both caregivers and families.
A lot of nursing homes have to deal with wandering patients. To find these patients it takes valuable time of the nursing staff and it is a substantial stress factor for staff and family. A nursing home in Germany wanted a solution for this problem. They contacted Daza, and it turned out that traditional prevention systems require major installation hassle and are very expensive. So Daza looked for another solution and found it at Intellifi and Cisper.
The installation of the wander detection system had to be simple so that the patients and the organization experienced none or very little discomfort. Cisper suggested to use Smartspots from Intellifi and flexible RFID tags that can be put in clothing. Intellifi Smartspots are very easy to install as they require no more than a powered Ethernet connection to the Internet. After connecting the Smartspots to the Internet, the intelligent Intellifi BRAIN collects and interprets the read data based on which existing nurse calling systems can be triggered.
Benefits for the staff:
By using the Daza nurse calling systems, the staff receives automated notifications or alarms in the case of an undesired wandering. Using state-of-the-art cloud technology, notifications can easily be sent to e-mail or smartphone users as well.
Benefits for the patients:
By using tiny RFID labels attached to patients clothing, the identification of patients is non-intrusive.
With the Intellifi technology and Daza interface there is a reliable notification available in a package that is very easy to install and deploy. Patients can be wirelessly identified and localized with specially designed tags, that are not visible for the patient. Patients are protected, the staff is able to follow up adequately and stress for family and staff is reduced.
After thorough initial testing, the system is now integrated in many nursing homes.
