Impinj has released R700 Revision 2 (R700v2), a new hardware revision of the R700 RAIN RFID reader. The reader is available in both ETSI and FCC variants. This version introduces a 64-bit processing platform while maintaining the same RF performance and mechanical design as earlier R700 units.
R700v2 is relevant for RFID projects where additional on-reader processing is required, for example in item-level reading, aggregation or packing verification environments.
Key benefits
- Uses a 64-bit dual-core ARM A53 processor (1 GHz)
- Runs a 64-bit Linux 6.6 operating system
- Provides 768 MB Customer Application Partition (CAP) memory
- Maintains identical RFID read performance
- Supports 4 RFID antenna ports
- Requires PoE+ (802.3at) power
- Fits existing mounting and cabling layouts
Migration note
Customers using R700 Revision 1 who develop on-reader CAP applications should be aware that applications must be recompiled for the new 64-bit platform using the updated Embedded Toolkit (ETK). Migration guidance is available via the Impinj Support Portal.
Designed for
R700v2 is intended for fixed RAIN RFID installations in logistics, manufacturing and retail environments, such as dock doors, conveyors and verification stations where reliable item identification is required.
If you are planning new RAIN RFID deployments or migrating from R700v1, it is important to verify power availability and application compatibility before selecting the hardware revision.
